Situated in the south west of the island, Bendinat is a small residential suburb of Portals Nous and is only 20km from Palma.

The resort is popular with golfers as there is an 18 hole golf course and walkers who enjoy taking the coastal route to Portals Nous.

There is not much to offer in Bendinat but visitors will find a good variety of shops, bars and restaurants in the nearby Portal Nous.

Insider's View

Majorca Insider Bendinat next to Portals Nous on the south west coast, is considered one of the most exclusive resorts of the Bay of Palma

In Catalan, Bendinat means ´well dined' so you'd imagine the place might be jam-packed with restaurants-which isn't the case, although there are plenty in nearby zones. As you enter the modest resort from the motorway it's impossible not to notice the privately owned, neo-Gothic Bendinat castle, a folly built between 1855 and 1867 by Pedro Caro, 3rd Marquis of La Romana. Bendinat next to Portals Nous on the south west coast, is considered one of the most exclusive resorts of the Bay of Palma with its huge white villas hugging the cliffs, expensive terraced apartments and surrounding lush green hills. It has an impressive 160 feet sandy beach so ideal for sun worshippers.

Worth noting for golfers is the rather swanky Royal Bendinat 18 hole golf course whose honorary president is King Juan Carlos himself. Two local dining emporiums popular with expats and holidaymakers are the Italian themed restaurants, Di Benedetto and Real de Vellón, but if you 're after greater variety, head to Puerto Portals for a good choice of Mediterranean and international cuisine.

Bendinat certainly isn't famous for its nightlife being more a residential and quiet place for couples in need of a little R&R and for young families. All the same, just a short trip along the coast is the happening Puerto Portals with its vast yachts and super marina. There are good beaches all along the coast here and for a little culture, bus routes lead directly to Palma for excellent shopping, museums, galleries and sightseeing tours. In Cala Mayor it's worth popping by Fundació Pilar I Joan Miró, a fabulous modern gallery boasting 2,500 works and 100 paintings by the great artist. Situated on the same site is his former home which you can also visit. The Foundation has a pretty café serving snacks and light meals, and there's a souvenir shop.

For nightlife nearby Palma Nova offers discos, cocktail bars, an assortment of good restaurants and the relaxing Cappuccino café and bar, all facing a spotless white sandy beach.
