Ca'n Pastilla is a popular resort and with a diverse range of attractions and amenities it is easy to see why. There are shops, bars and restaurants to suit all tastes and budgets, as well as a few bars that offer live music but not much else in the way of nightlife. There are also lots of facilities along the beach including a variety of watersports and some bars and cafes, perfect for a light refreshment whilst enjoying the sun. There is a tree lined promenade which leads all the way to Arenal but if you prefer, you could jump on the mini-train that will get you there a little quicker.
For alternatives to a day on the beach you could enjoy a game of crazy golf, visit the waterpark or take the short trip to Palma which is a great place for sightseeing, shopping and dining.
Insider's View
This was one of the first tourist spots on the island, and having been nothing more than a small fishing village it's extraordinary to think how it's expanded over the years with the growth in tourism. Ca'n Pastilla has one of the longest silky and sandy beaches on the island, stretching all the way to Arenal in the east. Known as the Playa de Palma, the beach shelves gently and is therefore a good option for families with young children.
Arenal and Can Pastilla are joined by a long promenade which can be walked, cycled or travelled by mini bus train and there are many nearby attractions such as Aqualand, Europe's largest water park, and the excellent Palma Aquarium, a place I never get bored of visiting.
There are lots of tourist shops along the promenade but for something a little more unusual or special, it's worth the quick bus ride into Palma which has an abundance of stylish shops, boutiques and restaurants.
One of the cool Ibizan style hangouts in the area is Puro Beach. Aside from its bar and dining facilities, it now offers a therapy centre with pilates and yoga classes and spa treatments.
Restaurants in the resort are legion, coming in just about every size, shape and ethnic type. One to try though is Laurus, on the promenade and overlooking the harbour, whose owner and chef is from the Basque region. I like the way he skillfully marries traditional and classic dishes from his culinary roots with new ingredients and exotic herbs and spices.
