Cabo Blanco is situated just 16km from Palma airport which makes transfer times very short which is ideal, especially for those with children.

There are many shops, bars and restaurants dotted around the narrow streets so you will be sure to find something to suit your taste and budget.

The area is surrounded by Mediterranean pine forests which help create the relaxing and peaceful atmosphere and also offers some great views of the coves along the coast.

For those who want to get away from the stresses and strains of life, look no further than Cabo Blanco. This peaceful, wild and rugged retreat is nestled in pine forests on the south east coast, and offers spectacular views over the sea. There's an old lighthouse and watch towers all along the coast here, a reminder of when pirates launched frequent attacks on the island during the 16th century.

I enjoy this part of the island for swimming but also cycling because Llucmajor, the nearest village is renowned for its impressive cycling routes that weave a course through nearby Cabo Blanco, Cala Pi and Cap Enderrocat.

The beaches are peaceful and the waters clear and are home to many waterfowl and itinerant birds. Strolling through the aromatic Aleppo pines and Holm oak forests in Cabo Blanco, I came across an odd sight one day. It was an abandoned Spanish military defence installation, now overgrown with long grasses, bushes and palms. Apparently its artillery is now housed in a military museum which is just as well. A site worth seeing as you cycle or stroll through the wild and verdant terrain is Capocorb Vell, one of the finest talayots on the island.

For a spot of shopping and dining Llucmajor's the place to go. It's a village that dates back to the 14th century and has a very medieval feel. There are some lovely little cafés and restaurants to visit and local stores. Insider Sig
