Cala Blava Holidays

Travel Agent's View

Travel Agents View The small resort of Cala Blava is situated in the south east of the island, 3km from El Arenal and 15km from Palma.

There is a small commercial centre close by which has a few shops, bars and restaurants.

More of a residential area, but with some great coves and inlets.

Insider's View

Majorca Insider I have a very funny memory about my last visit to beautiful Cala Blava or Blue Cove. It was by boat and some Mallorcan friends were showing my husband and me what great sailors they were while we stood on the deck like a pair of redundant deckhands. As they tried to navigate the boat towards the shore, they lost control and went steaming towards an elegant yacht in our path. A major collision was avoided by the quick actions of the other yacht owner!

Aside from that memorable little incident, I can only say that this is one of the most spectacular coves on the eastern curve of Palma Bay. It's quite a serene, residential zone set amid craggy rocks and dramatic cliffs and has breathtaking views out to the turquoise sea. Much of this part of the coast is off limits which means it remains un-spoilt, natural and uncluttered.

There are some excellent little rocky inlets where one can take a cool dip and the main beach is sandy with crystal clear waters. Towards Bella Vista there is the Calò des Cap d'Alt and Cala de Cap Falcó for bathing in glassy emerald waters.

A nearby restaurant worth visiting is Restaurante Panorámica Playa for a fish platter on the cool terrace which affords heavenly views of the Bay of Palma.

If you're into star spotting, novelist Jeffrey Archer has a stunning new home aloft the cliffs at the end of the bay and if you're looking for nightlife, take a brisk stroll to Arenal for cocktail bars, discos and karaoke specials.

Portixol, a charming little enclave with harbour on the edge of Palma is only fifteen minutes away by car and has loads of good tapas bars and restaurants such as my favourites Sa Roqueta and Rocamar which serve up delicious fresh fish and the best catch of the day.
