Cala Bona Holidays

Travel Agent's View

Travel Agents View has grown over the years to accommodate the increasing number of tourists which tend to be families and older couples

Cala Bona is a small, traditional fishing village which has grown over the years to accommodate the increasing number of tourists which tend to be families and older couples.

There are plenty of bars and restaurants offering international and traditional cuisine to be found in the resort as well as activities such as watersports, walking trips and boat excursions.

The 3km stretch of beach leads right to the neighbouring resort of Cala Millor where you will find a greater selection of restaurants, bars, nightclubs and activities for all to enjoy. The airport is approximately 55 minutes drive from the resort.

Insider's View

 by Anna Nicholas

Majorca Insider a must visit is to the Coves de Drac in nearby Porto Cristo, the caves that are home to an enormous subterranean lake

Despite having mushroomed into quite a sizeable resort over the years, Cala Bona still retains its charm and has a working harbour where fishermen still tend their nets and bring in the best catch of the day.

The coastline here is rocky with scattered pines and old olives trees and there are some idyllic little coves along the coastline such as Cala Romantica and Cala Varques which I have found great for a quiet swim out of season. Cala Bona itself is well kept and has a pretty palm fringed promenade running the length of the resort with numerous bars and restaurants. There are a multitude of sports to be enjoyed here such as scuba diving, snorkelling, boat trips and wave rider boats. There are relaxing glass bottomed boat trips on offer too, that offer superb views of the east coast as they head out towards Cala Ratjada.

We've taken pony rides at Rancho Willy's stables and a must visit is to the Coves del Drach (the dragon 's caves) in nearby Porto Cristo that are home to an enormous subterranean lake 177metres long and 30 metres wide. The daily classical music recitals performed on the lake are fantastic and I love taking the short boat ride across the illuminated glassy and tranquil water. It's a breathtaking experience altogether and children in particular really enjoy visiting the many caverns with their beautifully formed stalactites and stalagmites.

A good family attraction is the auto Safari-Zoo at nearby Sa Coma which runs courtesy buses from the resort. I'm not a great fan of animals in enclosures but if you fancy a close up encounter with monkeys, elephants, giraffes and the odd big cat, this is the place to go. At nearby Cala Millor there's also Fantasy Park, an outdoor recreation zone by Parc de la Mar which is very popular with children. I 'm quite a shopaholic and the flea market at Son Servera is one of my weaknesses as is its local market held in the town every Friday. If you don't mind leaving the resort, it's worth travelling a little further afield to Manacor to experience its huge Monday market.

Two good restaurants to try in Cala Bona are L'Olivia, for good local cuisine and a friendly welcome and Trattoria Maccheroni which serves excellent pastas right on the waterfront.
