Cala Bona is a small, traditional fishing village which has grown over the years to accommodate the increasing number of tourists which tend to be families and older couples. There are plenty of bars and restaurants offering international and traditional cuisine to be found in the resort as well as activities such as watersports, walking trips and boat excursions.
The 3km stretch of beach leads right to the neighbouring resort of Cala Millor where you will find a greater selection of restaurants, bars, nightclubs and activities for all to enjoy. The airport is approximately 55 minutes drive from the resort.
Insider's View
The good thing about Cala Bona, is that although it's mushroomed into quite a sizeable resort over the years, it still retains its charm and has a working harbour where fishermen still tend their nets and bring in the best catch of the day.The coastline here is rocky with scattered pines and old olive trees and there are some idyllic little coves along the coastline such as Cala Romantica and Cala Varques which I have found great for a quiet swim out of season.
Cala Bona itself is well kept and has a pretty palm fringed promenade running the length of the resort with numerous bars and restaurants.
There are a multitude of sports to be enjoyed here such as scuba diving, snorkelling, boat trips and wave rider boats. We've enjoyed pony rides with Rancho Willy's stables and a must visit is to the Coves de Drac in nearby Porto Cristo, the caves that are home to an enormous subterranean lake. We have always enjoyed taking the short boat ride on the lake and children really love the many caverns with their beautifully formed stalactites and stalagmites. There's also the auto Safari-Zoo to visit and if you enjoy markets and shopping, the flea market at Son Severa, one of my weaknesses.
Two good restaurants to try are El Duende and also Fonell Marí which is right on the waterfront and offers some of the most delicious fresh fish and paella in the area.
