Cala Mandia Holidays

Travel Agent's View

Travel Agents View popular with families who like to spend their day relaxing

The quiet resort of Cala Mandia is sometimes known as Porto Cristo Novo as it is only 4km from the larger resort of Porto Cristo which has many facilities and attractions.

The sandy beach is popular with families who like to spend their day relaxing while the more active may wish to venture into one of the nearby resorts to take part in activities such as watersports.

There is a small selection of shops which provide basic supplies and some souvenirs as well as some bars and restaurants but many of the bars and nightclubs only open at weekends when the locals come to town.

There is not too much to see in the resort but Dragon Caves and Hams Caves are both close by and well worth a visit. A popular resort for families and older couples and it is only about 60km from the airport so transfer times are relatively short.

Majorca Insider I have often visited the sandy beach here because it doesn't get too crowded and the waters are safe and welcoming. My husband, son and I usually pack a picnic and pitch up with some local friends and their children

About three kilometres along the coast from Porto Cristo is relaxing and tranquil Cala Mandia, a rather charming little resort that curls around the Bay of Mandia and boasts a lovely beach with pure and sparkling blue water. This isn't a bustling place with lots of nightlife although there's plenty of that to be found in neighbouring Porto Cristo.

I have often visited the sandy beach here because it doesn't get too crowded and the waters are safe and welcoming. My husband, son and I usually pack a picnic and pitch up with some local friends and their children to enjoy the peace and to watch the snorkelers and wind surfers. The views from the resort are of olive trees and pine covered craggy hills and rocky outcrops that lead down to hidden coves. There are a few water sports to enjoy here and gentle strolls along the beach.

Although there are some local touristy shops selling reasonable souvenirs, the best bet is to take one of the frequent local buses into Porto Cristo where you can pick up leather goods, linens and some pretty pottery and glassware. If water sports don't float your boat, there's a golf course about 15 kilometres away and the must-see Coves del Drach in Porto Cristo, a delight for adults and children alike. For dining while you're in Porto Cristo, do try to pop by La Magrana, a gem of a café cum restaurant up the hill by the church, away from the more expensive restaurants in the port. It offers exceptional homemade and delicious fare and a value for money menu del dia in its pretty patio and garden.
