Camp de Mar Holidays

Travel Agent's View

Travel Agents View ideal for a relaxing holiday with plenty of attractions in the surrounding area

The small resort of Camp de Mar offers a sheltered beach which is generally quiet throughout the year and offers some great views over the bay.

The lovely scenery makes it a great place for outdoor activities such as hiking and cycling with opportunities for golfing and tennis also available.

There are some shops, bars and restaurants available but if it is a bustling nightlife you are looking for then a trip to Santa Ponsa or Magaluf, which are both within 10kms would be advisable.

Camp de Mar is ideal for a relaxing holiday with plenty of attractions in the surrounding area.

Majorca Insider an ideal spot for a truly peaceful and laid back holiday away from the crowds and bustle and is not for those in search of a hectic night life!

This is a small and exclusive beach resort at the extreme southwest of the island where many a celebrity keeps a private villa. In the past Claudia Schiffer had a pile here and more recently Tom Cruise and Michael Schumacher are purported to have bought pads in the hills.

This is an ideal spot for a truly peaceful and laid back holiday away from the crowds and bustle and is not for those in search of a hectic night life! Most of the entertainment is hotel based unless you venture off by car to nearby Puerto de Andraitx for some midnight cocktails or to dance the night away in nearby Santa Ponsa and Paguera. I'd also recommend the famous Gran Casino in Porto Pí for a night out of music, Pirates Adventure, the acrobatic show or Come Fly With Me at Globo Balear Theatre in Magalluf.

Those who enjoy tennis and golf often make a beeline for Camp de Mar since it offers both in abundance. In Paguera there is the well known Tennis Academy Majorca where players of the calibre of Boris Becker, Stefi Graff and Tommy Haas have trained. There are also six championship standard golf courses within close range, the nearest being Golf de Andraitx.

For shopping it's worth popping into Puerto de Andraitx for the artisan craft and fruit market on a Wednesday. Be warned that the few shops in Camp de Mar charge a fair whack more than in other nearby resorts dint of their being the only ones in a fairly solitary spot! A restaurant worth sampling is Alcatraz, meaning 'gannet' in English, which is situated on a little island in the bay and reached by a wooden walkway.

A delightful 20 minute boat ride can be made to the uninhabited island of Dragonera whose departure point is the fishing port of Sant Elm, only a short distance from Camp de Mar. The island, one of my favourites, was established as a nature reserve in 1995 and offers some wonderful robust walks such as the two hour climb up to the dilapidated old Sa Pòpia lighthouse at the highest point. The island also has a 70 metre deep cave that leads to two subterranean lakes apparently used by the pirate Barbarossa (Red Beard) in the 16th century. There are scores of friendly Lilford lizards on the island (that even climb on your lap!) and protected bird species such as Leonor's falcon and Cory's shearwater.
