Colonia Sant Jordi Holidays

Travel Agent's View

Travel Agents View focal point of the village is the marina and small fishing harbour

Colonia Sant Jordi is situated just 40km from the airport and remains a very quiet village with many tourists just coming to visit for the day.

The focal point of the village is the marina and small fishing harbour where a few bars and restaurants can be found. There are also a few bars dotted around the streets but nothing in the way of nightlife.

Colonia Sant Jordi is close to many nice beaches including Es Trenc which is one of Majorca's most popular nudist beaches.

Majorca Insider ...there is now a marina for flashy yachts, the original fishing harbour still exists

Situated in the southeast corner of the island, this old traditional coastal town makes for an idyllically peaceful holiday only recently having made concessions to tourists. Although there is now a marina for flashy yachts, the original fishing harbour still exists and out of season the town returns to its sleepy and visitor-free state.

The hinterland here is very agricultural, with areas of coastline designated as protected nature parks and it is also famous for its salt flats. Every morning at 9.30am, a small ferry leaves the harbour for the 45 minute crossing to the nature reserve on the island of Cabrera which is part of a group of islands that have National Park status. The deep blue seas around Cabrera are full of rare and endangered species of marine life such as the sea turtle. On the boat journey, the captain makes a detour to the blue cove where you can go swimming in the aquamarine clear and cool waters. The blue light reflected in this craggy and rocky cove is spectacular and even if you don't want to dive off the boat for a dip, do take some photos! When you reach Cabrera be aware that you cannot wander about on your own. You must take a guided tour and there's nowhere to leave rubbish, so if you bring a picnic for the beach, remember to bring your debris back home. There's only one small kiosk for drinks so bringing some food along is advisable. I think it 's a real haven of calm and can't recommend it highly enough.

Colonia Sant Jordi has three good beaches for relaxing and swimming as well as the magnificent Es Trenc to the west, a section of which is dedicated to nudists so keep your wits about you!

Perhaps surprisingly for a resort without pretentions, the town has some great restaurants, four of which are listed in a local gourmet guide. One of my favourites is Antonio's which was founded in 1970 and has an airy terrace from which to enjoy stunning sunsets. Paella, fresh lobster and home made ice-cream are the restaurant's real specialities. There's also the long established family restaurant Port Blau which has a terrace overlooking the harbour and beach and serves up good fish dishes and paella
