Travel Agents View The hillside resort of Illetas is situated at the south end of Majorca, 6 miles from Palma and 12 miles from the airport. The resort lies on a steep slope which does mean you can get some great views of the area but it also makes it slightly harder for those with walking difficulties.

There are some shops, bars and restaurants on the main road and a few more restaurants at the bottom of the hill. There are 2 small sandy beach coves and some of the hotels do have their own private beaches.

There is not much nightlife to speak of, most of the entertainment is hotel based which is perfect for those who enjoy peaceful holidays. Golf lovers will be pleased to hear that there is a golf course just 1 mile away.

Majorca Insider To the west of Palma Bay and Cala Major is Illetes which sits high up on the cliffs and boasts a pile of exclusive white villas and low rise apartment blocks that cling on to a rocky and pine clad hillside. It's an understated place and perfect for a quiet, relaxing holiday. It's also ideally placed for visiting local attractions being near to all the racier resorts but having its own tranquil setting.

All around Illetes are tiny cove beaches and at the south end is a nice beach that I've often visited called Platja Cala Comtesa. There's also Platja Illetes where you can get a massage on the beach for a good price and Virtual Club, a really fun place for lunch or dinner which also has a rather novel nightclub tucked away in a cave. If you want to get away from the crowds, Virtual Club rents out sun loungers for nine euros which includes water and fruit, and has a great cocktail bar at night and live DJ music.

Along the wide Avinguda Joan Miró which runs around the west of the bay there are English pubs, pizza joints and a huge selection of bars and restaurants including Es Parral, which, I've been told, serves up very tasty Mallorcan fare at reasonable prices. The famous Bon Sol Hotel also has a lovely restaurant overlooking the sea and serves up imaginative Mallorcan and international dishes, and is definitely worth a visit.

For night owls, Puerto Portals, a quick taxi ride away, has some glitzy bars and nightclubs and there's always the famous over-the-top Abaco cocktail bar in Palma, a quick drive away, or Tito's nightclub on the Paseo Maritimo in Palma. Insider Sig
