Montuiri Holidays

Travel Agent's View

Travel Agents View Montuiri is situated in the middle of the island, about 25 minutes drive from the airport and city of Palma.

The small village sits on a hillside, dominated by the eight mill-towers that sit on the hills. There are a few bars and restaurants dotted around the village so you will be bound to find something to suit your tastes.

There are a few places of historical interest to see including the prehistoric remains of the Talayotic settlement of Son Fornes which lies just outside Montuiri. The village is also home to one of the best festivals in Majorca which takes place every August.

Insider's View

Majorca Insider Montuïri is a picturesque little village which squats aloft a hill in what is known as the central pla, the verdant plain which forms the middle section of the island.

The buildings and Parish Church of Sant Bartomeu are of traditional stone and hark back to a bygone era along with the old windmills used for grinding flour in times gone by. Also worth visiting is the ancient Rectory building which was built between the 14th and 15th centuries.

On the outskirts of the village are the prehistoric remains of the Talayot settlement of Son Fornés and the Ermita of Sant Miquel which sits up on a hill with wonderful views. Also worth a quick visit is the Sanctuary of Mare de Deu de la Bona Pau, which dates back to the 14th century.

Overall, Montuíri is a place to get away from it all being peaceful and totally relaxing. A restaurant I rate hugely is Son Bascos, a friendly joint which offer delicious Mallorcan fare but above all, its speciality which is quail. Mallorcans come from far and wide just to sample the roasted quail dishes here.

For local attractions a visit to the glassworks at Gordiola near Agaida and the 19th century mansion of Els Calderes, are a must. I have visited countless times and never get bored! In Algaida there are also some excellent restaurants and bars too so if you have a hire car head over there one day.
