Travel Agents View Palma Nova lies right next door to Magalluf, so close in fact that the two resorts almost merge, making it quite difficult to determine where one starts and the other one finishes.

The resort itself is built around three great beaches with a pedestrianised walkway that stretches the length of all the beaches and is a great way to see some of the resort.

There are many shops, bars and restaurants to suit all budgets plus many nightclubs for those who want to party all night. As far as activities go there are plenty of watersports, mini golf and of course the countless attractions such as the waterparks that can be found in neighbouring Magaluf.

Palma is just a short bus ride away and is great for a day away from the beach with plenty to see and do and the airport is about 15km away so transfer times are kept to a minimum.

Although Palma Nova has as many nightclubs as Magaluf, if does tend to be little more relaxed, therefore may be better suited to families with young children.

Insider's View

Majorca Insider There's nothing better on a sunny day than to drive to Palma Nova and stroll along the palm fronded main boulevard that runs parallel to the sea. This sun kissed town, a ten minute drive from neighbouring Portals Nous is a low key, family resort with excellent facilities and a huge choice of restaurants.

I usually come to visit Morag, owner of Book Worm, a card and book emporium that is tucked away in a small pedestrianised zone off the seafront. Do pop by if you have the chance. She's one in a million and loves visitors.

One of my small treats after a browse in the bookshop is to have a double espresso in Cappuccino along the front, idling on the front terrace and looking out to sea. Given that Palma Nova has one of the most clean, sandy and safe beaches on the island it's not surprising that holidaymakers throng here in the summer. Still, because of its size, there's room for everyone and if it becomes too crowded another nearby sandy beach to try is Son Caliu.

Aside from local restaurants, it's worth a trip to Moods on the Carretera Palma-Andratx, which is beloved by partygoers and has a restaurant, pool and relaxing sun loungers which you can use for most of the day. By night there is live music and an impressive cocktail lounge where you can sample your favourite tipple while listening to one of Moods's regular crooners.

If you want to keep the kids cool and happy, there's no better place than Aqualand and Western Water Park. It's not my idea of fun because I'm not hugely into water shoots and tunnels but my son and his pals think it's a cool place to hang out! I just bring a book and stay in the shade with an iced drink-bliss. Insider Sig
