Portals Nous Holidays

Travel Agent's View

Travel Agents View Situated on the South-West coast of the island, Portals Nous is one of the most exclusive resorts in Majorca and even claims to have the best marina in Majorca.

There are some bars and restaurants situated around the marina as well as some very expensive boutiques so if you like window shopping then this could be the place for you.

There is not much on offer as far as nightlife is concerned but the busy capital of Palma is only 20km away so if you fancied a good night or day for that matter you could make your way to Palma.

The airport is only 23km away so transfer times are relatively short.

Insider's View

Majorca Insider As a writer I tend to sniff out places with good bookshops and that is one of the reasons I like Portals Nous along the road from Illetes, and am often seen lurking near the Universal Bookshop on the main thoroughfare.

There is something very laid back and village like about Portals Nous. The action really is all on one broad street which is stacked with cafés and restaurants and some good hairdressers, clothes and beauty joints. The Flintstones Café is a regular hang out for local Expats and many congregate around Universal Bookshop where they can pick and swap paperbacks for a few euros.

The coastline here is green and hilly and there is a tiny beach just beneath the cliffs although not far away are several good beaches including Cala Falco and of course the stunning and yacht drenched and boutique laden marina of Puerto Portals.

At Puerto Portals there are some excellent restaurants along the swanky marina such as famed Wellies which is one of my favourite Anglo-Mallorca joints serving a huge range of Spanish and English favourites and which is purported to serve the best beef burger on the island. It's also just opened a new al fresco roof bar.

Along the road is stylish Japanese infused Tahini which is pricey but serves the best sashimi around and is an oasis of calm. Due is a good pizza and pasta choice and Chiringuito Roxy Beach serves us cocktails until late.

If you want to push the boat out head for Michelin starred Tristan restaurant for a bit of star spotting but fame comes at a price - the menu is very expensive! This is the zone where you may run into Peter Stringfellow, a random soap star or even, God forbid, Anthea Turner down by the yachts.

For children the nearest fun place to visit is Marineland which has shark tanks, an aquarium and dolphin and sea lion shows. It's a bit tired now but never fails to please the kids.
